A plan for a new hybrid grocery store selling expired items has been set in motion by former Trader Joe’s president Doug Rauch. Coined, The Daily Table, the store will provide an assortment of prepared foods and fruits and vegetables.
Rauch’s vision was fueled by from the excessive amount of food being wasted by people on a daily basis. A revealing report conducted in 2013 found that consumers throw away up to 40 percent of their food.
The former Trader Joe’s president told the Boston Globe that cheap meals are frequently unhealthy. Because of this, The Daily Table will be geared at lower-income residents in Boston and the surrounding areas.
