Evan Ruggiero, Montclair State University musical theater student from Old Bridge, New Jersey, continues to inspire anyone that crosses his path.

The 23-year-old tap dancing cancer survivor made an appearance on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” last Friday and relayed his story of triumph to the host and her audience.

When Evan was 19 he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer), which had developed in his right leg. It came to the point where there was nothing more the doctors could do so they decided to amputate his leg. Now he tap dances with a prosthetic peg leg and incorporates it well in his routines.

Evan performed on the show and Ellen surprised him afterward with a $10,000 check from Shutterfly to help pay for his schooling.

Evan’s story was also featured in Mark DiIonno’s column in The Star Ledger, Playbill.com, and “Inside Edition”. If you are an “American Idol” fan, you might recognize him from his audition for the show in Season 12.

With much determination, will, and faith to return to dance, he is now tapping again. For updates, check out Evan Ruggiero’s Facebook page!
