Sparkling Holiday Mimosa



1/4 cup fresh orange juice, chilled
1 ounce amaretto
11/2 ounces vanilla-flavored vodka
Cranberry Simple Syrup (recipe follows)
Ice cubes
1/4 cup frozen cranberries
1/4 cup chilled sparkling wine*
Garnish: orange zest twist

Cranberry Simple Syrup
Makes 1 1/2 cups

1 (12-ounce) bag frozen cranberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup water


1. In a cocktail shaker, combine orange juice, amaretto, and vodka. Stir to combine.

2. Pour about 11/2 tablespoons Cranberry Simple Syrup into a chilled glass filled with ice. Add orange juice mixture.

3. Add frozen cranberries, then add sparkling wine. Garnish with orange twist, if desired. Serve immediately. *We tested with Prosecco.

Cranberry Simple Syrup
4. In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, and water. Cook over medium-high heat until mixture boils. Reduce heat to medium, and simmer for about 10 minutes. Pour mixture through a wire-mesh strainer into a bowl, using back of a spoon to squeeze out liquid; discard solids. Store mixture in an airtight container in refrigerator for up to 1 week.
